Erbarme Dich Mein Gott
Johann Sebastian Bach
Level: Beginner (easy)
"Erbarme dich, mein Gott" is a famous aria from Johann Sebastian Bach's masterpiece, the St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244), composed in 1727. The title means "Have mercy on me, my God." "Erbarme dich" is often considered one of the most beautiful and emotional arias in the entire Baroque repertoire. And it's not even very difficult to play on the piano!
Tips for playing piano
✔ Practice step by step: Repeat the Slow section as many times as needed until you feel comfortable, then move on to the next chapter.
✔ Hands separately first: Start by practicing the right hand (melody), then the left hand, and finally both together.
✔ Play with a partner: One person can play the melody while the other plays the accompaniment—great for learning together!
✔ Practice daily: Even just 15 minutes a day will help you improve steadily.
✔ Take your time: enjoy the process, and have fun playing!
